The 9-Pin J1939 female connector is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring to the right place after plugging to a 9-Pin J1939 male receptacle assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.
The ends of Deutsch 9-Pin J1939 female and male connectors can be overmolded or not, according to your needs. If the ends are overmolded, the cables are more sturdy and durable. If not overmolded, the price can be lower because the raw material and labour cost is saved.

Application
There is only one J1939 diagnostic port in a truck. If you want to connect two devices with J1939 port to the truck at the same time, this Deutsch 9 Pin J1939 Split Y Cable is needed. It can connect ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices), diagnostic devices or scanners or fault code readers to the truck.
This Deutsch 9 Pin J1939 Split Y Cable allows port relocation or connection of multiple devices. This Y cable is for heavy duty commercial vehicles (such as some Freightliner Cascadias and others) that have the J1939 9 pin diagnostic port adjacent to the clutch pedal or in some other inconvenient location. It is also for commercial vehicles that require multiple devices be connected to the J1939 9 pin diagnostic port. This Y cable splits the J1939 diagnostic port, allowing one J1939 port at the original location and the other connected to an ELD or another device which has a J1939 port.
